Small ADAT Project Update

Work on the tape digitization project has continued this past weekend. I completed 9 more tracks, which accounts for around 3/4s of the total track count. I've refined the process a bit and have gotten quicker at manipulating the tape machine.

I did, however, run into a slight problem with some of the tapes. As I got further into the first set of three, I would have an increasing amount of audio drop on two of the three tapes. I thought at first that maybe the tape machine just needed its heads cleaned, but it turned out to be a different, more difficult issue.

I began to troubleshoot the machine, running the same section over and over again on the tape to see if the disturbance was repeatable, which it was constantly happening, but never in the same way twice. This led me to test the machine with other tapes. I found that other tapes worked perfectly fine. The only conclusion that I can draw at this point is that the tapes themselves are dirty rather than the heads. This is a significantly harder problem to solve, and is one that I am still working on. I hope to be able to resolve that issue and finish this project this upcoming weekend!
